A Little History
Phoenix Support began in 1988 when our founder, Lorna Thwaite, turned her passion for personalised care into a small community service. After Lorna’s marriage, the organisation traded as The O’Shea Partnership and later as Care‑YES. In 2014, the clients we support chose a new name that captured our spirit of renewal — Phoenix Support.
Who We Are Today
Still a family‑run company with more than 35 years’ experience, Phoenix Support is proud to serve adults across Maidstone, West Malling, East Malling and neighbouring villages. Our dedicated team continues Lorna’s mission: delivering compassionate, person‑centred support that helps each individual live the life they choose.
Our Vision
We believe in:
· Respect & Dignity — Recognising every person’s unique strengths and aspirations.
· Choice & Independence — Providing the right support, at the right time, in the right way.
· Community — Building connections that enrich lives and foster belonging.
· Esther — We support the "Esther" model - "NO DECISIONS ABOUT US WITHOUT US"

I have been around or in the care industry all my life. I wouldn’t change anything; it has made me a stronger, empathetic human being.
I have been blessed to have been able to be a part of people’s lives in this way.
Hobbies, well, boring. I love reading, watching movies, James Cagney, or slapstick humour, Albert and Costello, Norman Wisdom or watching my chickens go about their day, especially the cleaning routine in a dust bath.
I have worked in finance for over 40 years in various industries, solicitors, Swiss screen printers, petrol forecourt suppliers, Spanish fruit importers, electrical engineering, veterinary practices and now in health.
My passions are spending quality time with my grandchildren, reading crime novels and enjoying getting out in the countryside.
My name is Samantha Read, and I am the deputy manager for domiciliary care. I joined the company in 2025, however I have worked within the care sector for over 19 years. I started my career by becoming a support worker at weekends, I then progressed to supervisor, then to office admin, care co-ordinator, staff training, and then to deputy manager. Now as a deputy manager I am responsible for ensuring that our service users receive the correct level of care and support required for their individual needs. I complete assessments and regular care reviews to ensure that the individuals need continue to be met. I support our staff to ensure that our service users are receiving the best level of care and support, enabling them to live their life’s the way they want to live.
My name is Rebecca Ablitt, though most call me Bex. I joined the company in 2015 as a team leader supporting adults with learning disabilities, focusing on person-centered care and helping them live independently.
I later trained in mental health and became a certified counsellor, providing support to staff. I also led a hostel assisting those with substance abuse and mental health challenges - which propelled me to service manager.
Now, as Deputy Manager, I oversee service users and housing operations, ensure safety, and am always ready to support staff, celebrating each service user’s progress.
We’re always looking for passionate people. Explore careers with us today!.
